Per ACIM forgiving is not pardoning but that is another subject. 
At our choosing here in the illusion we continue to come back lifetime after lifetime feeling separate from our Heavenly Father. When the illusion will end is up to each of us as Jesus explains in lesson 132. 
Then as we individually forgive the world and leave the illusion we move to a state of mind called, REAL WORLD. 
When the last person forgives the world, God will usher us to awareness of being with Him in our Heavenly Home of incredible love, peace, joy, happiness, splendor and beauty far beyond our imagination here in the illusion. 
If anyone reading this post has questions about ACIM teachings I will try to answer them or refer you to someone who can.

As in the past I will use A Course in Miracles (ACIM) teachings, channeled by Jesus and published in 1975 to discuss the concept. 
In ACIM creations are defined as being eternal. Thus our perception of a physical world and its contents are not a creations. 
As in the Bible, God is defined as SPIRIT in ACIM. 
In Reality (eternity) we are still as God Created us and will be so, forever. 
All that God creates is Real, meaning eternal. God creates by extension of Himself and we are each a spiritual extension of God as a Thought in His Mind. 
…. The term Mind maning God’s Mind is used 143 times in ACIM…..
… The term mind (lower case “m“) is used 1607 times. 
In effect everything is in the Mind of God.
Using the unlimited power of His Mind we imagined a physical world of separation from God our source. The ACIM exlanation fo this is interesting. Here is the way we made the illusion of our physical world.

W-325.1:1 This is salvation's keynote: What I see reflects a process in my mind, which starts with my idea of what I want.

ACIM teaches that the ego is our belief in being separate from God, born in a body and doomed to end our life in death. CONSCIOUSNESS is the domain of the ego 
You have probably guessed my answer to where conscious is.

I believe consciousness is a thought is our mind that we projected outward, looked upon, esteemed as real and guarded as one's own. Thus has no real meaning.
